Apoi to Yoshida
The trail extending from the summit of Mt. Apoi to the peak of Mt. Yoshida is among the region's richest in terms of alpine plant growth. The outcrop of peridotite behind the signboard there is an example of the area's plagioclase lherzolite, which forms remarkable alternate layers sandwiching strata of gabbroic rock up to several centimeters thick.
On the way to this point on the right is a relatively large depression in the ground containing piles of large rocks. Climbers stopping there on the way back and listening carefully may hear the high-pitched warning calls of the Japanese pikas that live in this habitat, and may even be lucky enough to spot one.
