Physical characteristics:
This deciduous dwarf shrub grows to approximately 1 meter in height. The leaves are odd pinnately compound and glossy. Both the flowers and the fruits face upward.

late May to June

forest edges in and above the Umanose area
Other information:
a variety of takanenanakamado (Sorbus sambucifolia)
Japanese name origin:
The “miyama” means “deep in the mountains.” The “nanakamado,” meaning “seven cooking stoves,” comes from the idea that the wood is so fire-resistant that it will not burn even after being thrown into a stove seven times.
