- This deciduous dwarf shrub grows to approximately 1 meter in height. The leaves are odd pinnately compound and glossy. Both the flowers and the fruits face upward.

- a variety of takanenanakamado (Sorbus sambucifolia)
- Japanese name origin:
- The “miyama” means “deep in the mountains.” The “nanakamado,” meaning “seven cooking stoves,” comes from the idea that the wood is so fire-resistant that it will not burn even after being thrown into a stove seven times.
